Clinical Definition of Bronchiectasis

Bronchiectasis describes damage to the walls of the bronchial tubes with loss of the smooth muscle and loss of elasticity of segments of the bronchi. The resultant airway distortion prevents secretions from being adequately cleared from the lungs.

Symptoms

  • Ongoing cough
  • Increased mucous (sputum) and phlegm production
  • Repeated lung infections
  • Bloody sputum
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest tightness
  • Wheezing
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Sinusitis

How Does Salt Therapy Assist Bronchiectasis?

The salt particles reduce the airway inflammation and congestion. Ingested salt particles enter via your mouth mass via the tongue and oropharynx into the back of your throat. The cilic fibers within the airway for sufferers are coated in excessive mucous. The salt molecules attach to the cilia fibers allowing the mucous to dry up and be removed (via sputum).
